Camp Wilkinson

Summer Day Camp for TK-8th Grade Students

June 19-23:

Morning Film Camp: Instructor Joe Kirsch

Our film camp director has seven years’ experience teaching creativity and imagination. We use hands-on video storytelling to make short films and trailers. This class enhances collaborative skills as well as allowing time for individual expression. Classroom narrative discusses career possibilities such as writing, acting, make-up, directing, sound, and stagecraft. We discuss our favorite scenes and concepts, then go out and make movies! Students can bring an iPhone, iPad, or other personal device if they desire. Movies will be posted online for sharing.

Afternoon Soccer Camp: Instructor Jaime Carrasco

Jaime Carrasco’s Las Americas Futbol program is aimed to teach kids basic soccer skills in a fun and non-competitive way. The goal is to show kids the importance of excercise, sportsmanship, and life skills through the beautiful game of soccer. Join us for a great experience. Viva el futbol!

June 26-30:

Morning Chess and Strategy Game Camp: Instructor Bay Area Chess

Chess and strategy games will inspire discussions about concepts and strategies. The goal is to have fun while learning how to apply tactical-play and strategic advantages to various situations. The program will cover the very basics for new students to the game and can challenge experienced players with more advanced concepts. Students will have the opportunity to learn the moves of the pieces, opening strategy, tactics, checkmates, and endgame plays, and gain valuable life skills such as winning and losing with grace, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Afternoon Science Camp: Instructor Mad Science

Our science camp is all about sparking your child’s imagination through scientific discoveries. Children are delighted and excited when they learn to explore and experience the scientific world around them through lively, hands-on science programs such as Detective Science, Science of Toys, Walloping Weather, Moving Motion, Energy Burst, Mad Science Machines, Kitchen Chemistry, Garden Science and Bugs!

July 5-7:

Morning Basket Weaving Camp: Instructor Sherrie Paregian

Has your child ever wanted to learn how to weave a basket? Here’s their chance! In our basket making classes, each student will design, create and embellish two different shaped baskets. They will also learn the history of basket weaving. Students will take home two baskets and walk away with fundamentals of basket weaving to make a number of different types of baskets from a variety of materials.

Afternoon Painting Exploration: Instructor Andrea Caturegli

In this camp, students will get a chance to explore three different styles of painting:

  • Watercolor techniques and landscape composition using our natural coastal environment as the subject for exploring their creativity.
  • Acrylic modern art painting on canvas to paint real life subjects in an abstract way and encourage artistic expression.
  • Mono print painting is spontaneous and unpredictable, which allows kids to embrace the unexpected result, finding beauty and interest using an uncontrolled medium.

August 7-11:

Morning Cooking Camp: Instructor Shaun Fung *

Our campers will visit another country through its cuisine, while learning valuable kitchen skills and basic cooking techniques. They’ll learn about the country, its culture and how that shapes the national palate. The students’ efforts will culminate every day in a tasty, multi-course lunch, shared together around the table, that they have made themselves. A wonderful way to share an experience with friends, over a well-cooked meal. They will also learn about the importance of food choices for personal and planetary health. At the end of the week, the kids will have assembled a cookbook of the fun recipes they made and reference materials they can refer back too.

* Additional fee of $30 to cover food costs. Students will eat what they make for lunch each day – yum!

August 14-18:

Morning Magic Camp: Instructor Jeanne Fields

Learning Magic enables the student to become disciplined in practice, build confidence through performing in front of an audience, manipulation of the hands (through sleight of hand magic) and responsibility to maintain their props. Students will learn tricks from actual props and everyday items, and most of all, they will have FUN! On the last day students will perform and magic show for their parents.

Afternoon Papermaking and Book Binding Camp: Instructor Andrea Caturegli

How fun it will be for the kids to create their own handmade paper and make a beautiful journal using traditional Japanese bookbinding techniques! Paper mache will be our medium for modern art sculpture. The kids will learn about form and composition in relation to three-dimensional design. The mixed media paper collage project will encourage the kids to create artwork by layering and combining different materials such as paper and found objects in nature.
